Pay-for-performance pilots for energy efficiency
|

Pay-for-performance schemes reward end users or aggregators for energy savings measured against a business-as-usual baseline. They can help provide investors and decision-makers with greater certainty that efficiency measures will actually improve building performance. As part of the Horizon 2020 project SENSEI, RAP led a new study that examines pay-for-performance programmes, including 11 case studies, and provides policy and regulatory recommendations for successful replication of this approach across the EU.

What a difference a year makes. In June 2019, Dr. Jan Rosenow reported that he had replaced his perfectly reliable gas boiler with a heat pump and promised to share the results of his experiment. The numbers speak for themselves: 54% lower energy use, carbon emissions savings between 46% and 58%, a 60% reduction in energy costs — and even more impressive measures per square metre.
